Brief: Local firm launches advanced wind power generator
August 8, 2008 -- Harbin Wind Power Co. Ltd. has launched its own model of advanced wind power generators, the People's Daily Online reported on July l.
The first units of the 1.5-megawatt magneto wind-driven generators will be installed at the Zhangbei power plant in Shijiazhuang, located south of Beijing. They are expected to start generating electricity next month, according to the same report. It said Harbin Wind Power owns intellectual property rights on the wind power generators, which were dubbed superior among existing domestic brands. The report did not cite any research to corroborate this claim. China's installed wind power base is expected to reach 10 gigawatts (GW) by yearend, from just over 6 GW as of 2007, according to a report published last month by a renewable energy industry magazine. China is currently the fifth largest producer of wind energy after Germany, the U.S., Spain and India, the report said. |
