June 9, 2007 -- More than 40 percent of construction projects in Xinjiang did not fully consider environmental pollution control requirements during the design stage of the projects , reported the state-owned Xinjiang News Network.

And, according to the Environmental Protection Agency survey of the Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region, 70 percent of Xinjiang's past construction projects did not fully implement environmental impact assessments. The newspaper did not report which time period the EPA survey covered.

Such acts seriously threaten the local ecological environment and production, the agency reported.

The EPA reminded enterprises that ignoring the pollution prevention and environmental design stage will ultimately hurt the enterprises themselves.
