Editorial: Managing Editor's Welcome
June 28, 2007 -- Emerging China, is a new business magazine covering a new business area, that of Central and Western China. Hitherto it has been coastal China that has received most of the limelight, and understandably so: it has constantly been at the forefront the country's economic progress. But the inside of the country is catching up, and it we will be among the first to document its rise.
There are already cliched phrases used to talk about China's inner regions, most notably, "the Wild West." But by labeling such a vast area with a simple phrase that connotes risk and lawlessness blurs over the nuances that will inevitably arise from place to place. No one can expect Hunan to develop in exactly the same manner as far-away Yunnan. It will be our job to make clear how the economic development occurs differently in the world's most populous country. It is my intention that Emerging China will be at the forefront of the English language reporting of China's second wave of development. It's going to be an exciting story. |
