September 6, 2007 -- Within five years, Chongqing's special agricultural produce will be sold on the internet, said the Information and Industry Bureau (IIB). The IIB is setting up a comprehensive service platform for agriculture and villages, with the intention of setting up 100 websites to promote the export of agricultural products by 2012.

The aim of the websites is to combine scattered sources of produce and connect small producers to a larger market. The IIB will support economic development in rural areas by providing services, such as information consultation, product research and development, product examination and quality certification, technology support and education. The industry will witness the overall reform by 2012 across Chongqing; by which time, the application of information technology in town and village enterprises is expected to exceed 70 percent.
