Brief: Xi'an International Airport's Second Phase of Expansion Started December 1
December 6, 2007 -- A ceremony to mark the start of work on the extension of Xi'an Xiangyang International Airport was held on December 1, reported Sanqin Metropolitan News. The extension project includes the construction of a second runway and facilities for the third terminal. Upon its completion, Xi'an Xiangyang International Airport will become the fourth airport with two runways besides Beijing Airport, Shanghai Pudong Airport and Guangzhou Airport. Xiangyang International Airport will be able to accept intercontinental flights from large scale passenger planes.
Sanqin Metropolitan News also reported that the project was officially approved in April by the National Development and Reform Commission, marked as a key construction project of the "11th Five Year Plan" of the General Administration of Civil Aviation and Shaanxi Provincial Government. The annual capacity of the airport after extension will be 26 million people, 360,000 tons of cargo and mail delivery, 250000 take offs and landings. The total investment is 7.292 billion yuan. |
