Brief:  Central, western cities lag behind in 'scientific development'
December 26, 2007 -- According to the Blue Book on Urban Development, published Dec. 20 by the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences, cities along the eastern coastal areas are more advanced scientifically than those in central and western regions. The three most scientifically developed cities were Shenzhen, Dongguan, and Beijing, reported the state-owned China Daily newspaper. In fact, Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzhou and their close neighbors accounted for 11 of the top 20 scientifically advanced large cities. In fact, only three of the cities were not in the eastern coastal region. The book's authors called for more development in other regions, especially the west, the newspaper reported.
