Brief:  Sichuan TV Maker Benefits from Government Farm Subsidies
December 26, 2007 -- China's second-largest television manufacturer, Sichuan-based Changhong Electric Co., will be providing low-cost televisions and mobile phones for farmers, as part of a government-funded subsidy program, the state-owned Shanghai Daily reported Tuesday. The government has pledged to subsidize the products by 13 percent in order to help stimulate the rural economy, and Changhong will be providing at least 50 percent of the goods, the company told the newspaper. Famers in Shandong, Henan and Sichuan proviences will be abel to purchase televisions, refrigerators and telephones from a total of 15 different manufacturers.
