Brief: China to extend crackdown on shoddy food products

February 29, 2008 -- China will conduct a nation-wide crackdown on unsafe food products in 2008 in order to restore the confidence of the "Made in China label" the General Administration of Quality Supervision, Inspection and Quarantine announced.
According to an announcement issued early this year, a total of 28 different categories of food can only be sold with a quality and inspection certification, including rice, cooking oil, meat, dairy products, instant noodles, tea and beer. Enterprises have until April 1 to comply with the new regulations, the agency said. Those who don't will face sanctions up to and including the suspension of production licenses.
