Brief: Coalminers to work through holiday period

February 3, 2008 -- About two-thirds of Shanxi's coalminers will stay on the job during the Chinese New Year holidays, reported the state-owned Xinhua newswire. Production will be 30 percent higher during the holiday compared to last year, the newswire reported. Disaster-struck areas will be the first to get coal shipments, local officials said. According to Xinhua, the province produced 630 million tons of coal in 2007, of those, 550 million tons were shipped out of the province.
